اَلْحَمْدُ لِلِّٰه رَبِّ الْعٰلَمِیْنَ وَالْعَاقِبة لِلْمُتَّقِیْنَ وَالصَّلٰوۃ وَالسَّلاَمُ عَلٰی رَسُوْله مُحَمَّدٍ وَّاٰله وَاَصْحَابه اَجْمَعِیْنَ، اَمَّا بَعْدُ

The one hoping for the mercy of his Master, Muhammad Abdul-Hayy Lucknowi, son of Haaji, Haafiz Muhammad Abdul- Haleem states:

I see in this era that the sin most committed is that of backbiting. The general people and even the pious regard it to be something trivial. By indulging in backbiting, one begins to incline towards other major and minor sins, and harm is caused to one in this world and the hereafter. I could not find any book regarding this matter which could guide one. Therefore, I decided to write this book which would be beneficial for the learned as well as the general masses, and by which people would be saved from the doubts created by Shaytaan. I therefore wrote this book and entitled it “Zajarush-Shubbaan-wash-Shaibati-an-Irtikaabil-Gheebah” (Rebuke for the young and old from indulging in backbiting).

I have divided the book into two sections:

a.) Backbiting

b.) Listening to backbiting and sitting in such gatherings.

Thereafter, for ease of people, I renamed the book, “What is backbiting?”

May Allaah Ta'ala accept this tiny effort!
